Green Heron
This little fella was standing on a wooden structure associated with the Platt St bridge by the Convention Center. This was taken at extreme zoom for my little camera so there is a little fuzziness to the images. Green Herons are small for herons, around 12 to 18 inches tall. It is, like most heron, a wetland bird. But the interesting thing about these herons is they are tool users. They have been seen dropping bugs, twigs, bread crumbs and other bits of flotsam into the water as lures for fish.

These birds are seasonally monogamous, with the individuals wandering after the breeding season. Both sexes raise the young, with the chicks dependent until about 45 days after hatching.
