Mural of Tampa

Published by George under Bowl

This fantastic mural is located at the corner of Royal St and Florida Ave. The artist name is Carl Cowden III and this was a public art commission. Great job of showcasing some of the city highlights in a unique manner.

Breaking out of the mold

Published by George under Bowl

There is a window in this building that is not like the others. Since I am in dire need of a new camera, it is not as apparent as it was to the Mark I Eyeball. But the voice of individualism can be seen.

Julian B. Lane Riverfront Park

Published by George under Bowl

This little ampitheater is located within Julian B. Lane Riverfront Park and is just one of many amenities offered by the central Tampa park. The Bowl’s staff botanist is out today, so I’m going to go out on a limb and guess the violet blooms trees are crepe myrtles (Lagerstroemia indica), which can be trimmed to a bush, or a tree. I think they add a nice splash of color. Hopefully we will get some rain soon and the grass will be able to join in the color fest.

Laughing Gull (Larus atricilla)

Published by George under Bowl

I saw this fella down by the river, alongside the Tampa Bay Performing Arts Center. He (or she) was grooming constantly, and it took me about ten minutes and twenty shots to get this one. My guess is she (or he) was waiting on some flotsam.

deHavilland Beaver

Published by George under Bowl

I was out by Peter O’Knight airport and I saw this little gem. Aviation buffs will know what a significant aircraft this is. For those that don’t, it is a deHavilland DHC-2 Beaver, arguably the best bush plane in the world. You can put floats, ski’s or just leave the wheels on. It has a short take off and landing roll, and the oil filler tube is in the cockpit, so you can refill the oil inflight.

The last production year of this magnificent aircraft was 1967. This particular airframe was built in 1960, and you can see it is as shiny as the day it left the factory. Over 1650 Beavers were made, and many fly on to this day.
