Clean Air Fair

Published by George under Bowl

Yesterday being May 1 (May Day), lots of things were going on downtown. I chose the Clean Air Fair in Poe Plaza, which is the Easterly extension of the Franklin Street Mall, also the scene of the Ugly Brick.

At noon, it was pretty packed, with a good mix of the standard downtown peeps (working folks) and school age persons.

We also had some non-human participants. Two tortoises, one old and big, and one young and small. Each was from a different organization. The large one was from Croc Encounters. A patient and pleasant lady named Karina (hope I got that right, the noise level was high, and my ears are bad) took time to help me with my picture.

The people around this young fella were engaged in a discussion at length with some other folks, and there was a news camera person behind me trying to make a living, so I didn’t get any info on the agency involved.

I’m a little torn between wanting to educate people about the wildlife that needs protecting, and the use of them in this type of situation. I’m sure that this causes the animals some stress, but if it helps in the preservation of the wild, is it worth it?

I welcome your comments on this.
