Eat your heart out Buffalo
Today, I present to you, a Tampa classic. This is a piece of sculpture done by George Sugarman (not me.) It is officially untitled, but Steve Otto of the Tampa Tribune coined the phrase “Exploding Chicken”. It sits at the corner of Kennedy and Ashley, in the plaza of a building with it’s own low rent nickname, the “Beercan” building. That is a Brass Bowl post for another day….
Several years ago, when the Beercan building changed hands, the new owners wanted to get rid of the sculpture. After many snickers, many “no thanks” and a few outright guffaws, they decided, evidently, to let the chicken stay.
